Stepping Stones 2nd Annual Student + Alumni March Madness Challenge (2024)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

March 2024

This past March, 11 current and past Stepping Stones Foundation college students participated in our annual March Madness Challenge. This year Stepping Stones was proud to have multiple teams from Stepping Stones members present in the official 64 team bracket; 

#1 Seed University of Connecticut 

Alumni: Chris Medeiros 

  • Once again UCONN dominated the tournament, going all the way to gain a second consecutive championship. Congratulations to Chris and the UCONN team!

#2 Seed University of Arizona

Alumni: Calvin Hennessey

  • They were in the tournament this year? Had no idea.

#6 Seed Clemson University

Current Students: Lewis White, Alex Swartzmiller, Dean Harpster

Alumni: Lyle Harpster

  • Clemson advanced all the way to the Elite 8, pulling off upsets versus #3 seed Baylor and #2 seed Arizona. After a great season, Clemson will look to continue its success into next year.

#10 Seed University of Colorado

Current Student: Aidan Ayotte

  • Colorado pulled off a high scoring upset versus #7 seed Florida in the first round before falling to #2 seed Marquette in the round of 32. Despite this, Colorado still had more success in basketball than football this year no thanks to Deon Sanders.

 

#13 Seed University of Vermont

Current Student: Lexi Curtin

  • UVM was eliminated in the round of 64 against #4 seed Duke, UVM will look to make the bracket for another consecutive season next year.

 

Stepping Stones was proud to have another 5 schools represented in the March Madness tournament this year, especially with its largest population of current and past members being represented by Clemson University!

 

To encourage everyone to participate, by having a bracket submission every Stepping Stones bracket competitor received an automatic $25 Uber gift card. These gift cards are perfect for both present and past students as they can be redeemed to purchase rides, food, and even groceries. 

 

This years results:

1st Place: Dean Harpster ($100 Uber gift card)

2nd Place: Chris Medeiros ($75 Uber gift card)

3rd Place: Mike Medeiros ($50 Uber gift card)

 

We hope another great year will encourage future participation for the upcoming 2025 March Madness tournament, hope to see you all next year!

This past March, 15 current and past Stepping Stones Foundation college students participated in the first annual March Madness Challenge. This year Stepping Stones was proud to have multiple teams from Stepping Stones members present in the official 64 team bracket; 

#2 Seed University of Arizona

Alumni: Calvin Hennessey

  • Nothing needs to be said about their performance this year. That is all.

 

#4 Seed University of Connecticut 

Alumni: Chris Medeiros 

  • UCONN went on to win the national championship in a historic dominating run. Congratulations to Chris and the UCONN team!

 

#5 Seed San Diego State University

Current Student: Sarah Hennessey

  • Although Sarah didn’t have enough faith to actually pick them to go far, SDSU had their best tournament performance in program history. They advanced all the way to the national championship game where they fell short in a tough game versus UCONN. 

 

#11 Seed North Carolina State

Current Student: Alex Swartz

  • NC State unfortunately lost in the round of 64 against a difficult Creighton team that went on to advance to the Sweet 16.

 

#15 Seed University of Vermont

Current Student: Lexi Curtin

  • UVM was eliminated in the round of 64 against #2 seed Marquette, UVM will look to make the bracket for another consecutive season next year.

 

With 5 total schools represented by Stepping Stones members, this year was the perfect beginning to the March Madness tournament challenge for the group. We hope to see continuous success and representation for the years to come!

After a successful first year, we encourage future participation every March to represent the fun collaboration within the Stepping Stones Foundation.
